I recently put a list together of YouTube videos for instant writing inspiration and have challenged myself to write something for each video. The following story was written while listening to this playlist.

Space Girl

“Let me guess, you only speak English,” a voice was asking as the door slowly lifted in front of me.

When it opened enough for me to look inside the car, I saw a woman in the driver’s seat. “Yeah, how’d you know?”

I mean, I think she was a woman. I never did find out what they called themselves on Tadmor. But she looked like a human woman — just with lavender skin and glowing hair. Her shirt looked like small, silky scales that changed colors under the lights of each passing car.

“Well, you’re not purple. Kind of gives you away.” She leaned across the passenger’s seat to look up at me with her bright eyes. Her irises were the colors of a rainbow. “American?”

“What?”

“Are you American?” she had started pressing buttons and turning knobs on the dash which was lighting up with red, orange, and green symbols.

“Oh. Yeah, I am. Wow, you’re pretty good.” I was surprised she could tell right away. I knew nothing about Tadmor and wouldn’t have been able to make any guesses about where she was…
